HARDWARE HOPES is a creative research project that explores the emotional and perceptual aspects of computer obsolescence. Is the decision to get rid of a home computer always as straightforward as it seems? The multiple functions of computers are well recognised, but how do we relate to computers as possessions? Hardware Hopes collects the personal 'life' stories of home computers; the narratives of their journeys through and out of the home.
The project is led by Julia Keyte, Sheffield Hallam University.
