Exhibition: Tuesday October 9, 2012 - Saturday November 3, 2012 @ 11:00 - 19:00
An exhibition from Access Space artists in residence Vahida Ramujkic and Aviv Kruglanski in Access Space Foyer
Odd Day News is an embroidered newspaper that came out every other day (and sometimes every third day, and other times just on the least expected day) during the two-week Documentary-Embroidery residency in Access Space during September. Headlines and images were “printed” using the embroidery machine in Access Space's Refab Space (they made extensive use of the Star, Sheffield's local newspaper and the last local daily in the UK), then to be “improved” using hand embroidering (during which tea and bicuits were consumed). The whole process was informed by ongoing conversations with the users, collaborators, workers and volunteers at Access Space. These conversations revolved around local issues and around issues regarding the press, the local channels of information and what is news-worthy.
Aviv Kruglanski is an Israeli born artist based in Barcelona. His http://www.Opensourecpants.org website documents his socially engaged work and what he calls “textile sabotage”.
Vahida Ramujkic is a Yugoslav artist who has produced socially engaged arts projects all over the world. She is currently dedicated to long-term projects: Disputed Histories (a library of history text-books and workshops), Microcultures (social, economic and culinary fermentation with Aviv and Moshe Robes) and Documentary Embroidery (with Aviv). http://www.irational.org/vahida/
Take a look at their collaborations and examples of embroidered works from projects in Poland, Canada and Slovenia - http://bbva.irational.org/documentary_embroidery/
