Salim Malla’s work is based on the idea of “reuse objects”, working with the concepts of time, space and energy, and establishing relations with the world of art, society and nature.
This installation is the starting point of the REUSE project.
Establishing an analogy between natural structures and the structures of knowledge acquisition, in these first pieces of work he has built new objects from the art he generated during the last three years of his fine art degree at the Basque Country University. He has traced the way back to nature through the same tools (physical strength and human knowledge) but in reverse, returning to nature what belongs to nature. Salim arrived in the UK from Bilbao in north western Spain with 200 drawings and 20 paintings which have been recycled to create this new work.
He believes in a kind of art between conceptual art and artisan work, and that art ought be a physical and intellectual resolution between artist and artwork.
