A group photography show that celebrates the diversity of one of Sheffield’s oldest and surviving ‘little mesters’

The Regeneration Gallery Presents The Portland Works

The Regeneration Gallery presents its first exhibition of 2010. The exhibition ‘Portland Works’ is a group photography show that celebrates the diversity of one of Sheffield’s oldest and surviving ‘little mesters’, a living, working industrial unit in the heart of the city that houses small independent metalworkers, cabinet makers, musicians and artists.

The Regeneration Gallery is an arts organisation dedicated to the production of artistic activity about Sheffields regeneration in the first quarter of the 21st century. The Portland Works is under threat of closure and the owners want it to be regenerated in to apartments. There is a citywide campaign to save it and keep it as a working building to save its rich heritage, culture and production.

The exhibition brings together architects, writers, photographs and artists alike with the aim to raise awareness of The Portland Works fight for survival and celebrate its richness. The show will present black and white and colour photography and will include: Herbert Housely, Charlotte Morgan, Mark Parsons, Martin Pick, Julia Udall, Dan Sumption, Eric Winnert, Steve Withington.
